Argyle International Airport, located in Argyle St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a country positioned in the Eastern Caribbean opened its doors to full operation on Tuesday February 14, 2017 following eight and a half years of construction.
The facility which boasts a runway 9000 feet long and a 150 feet wide, a terminal building with total floor space of 135-thousand square feet on three floors, saw an official opening ceremony taking place on the airport’s grounds on Monday February 13th. On Tuesday February 14th the airport received its first international jet landing when Dynamic Airways, a chartered flight originating from JFK Airport in New York touched down just after 7am.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has announced that the Argyle International Airport has been given the necessary go ahead to start operations at the Argyle International Airport.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday January 23, 2017, the Prime Minister said he was handed a letter from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) that very morning, by the person in charge of Civil Aviation matters Permanent Secretary Godfred Pompey, indicating that the organization has given the go ahead to the Argyle International Airport to commence operations as at one minute past midnight on February 14, 2017.
