The International Airport Development Company recently received another ten thousand US dollars towards the completion of the Argyle International Airport.
The money was handed over by the New York based Friends of the Argyle International Airport on Friday January 4th 2013, at Government House. It was accepted by Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne.
It was the second time within the space of 6 months that the New York based Friends of the Argyle International Airport was making a 10-thousand US dollars donation towards the completion of the Argyle Airport project.
Witnesses to the handing over of the cheque included, CEO of the IADC, Dr. Rudy Matthias, Treasurer of the Friends of the Argyle International Airport Ms. Moreen King, Chair of the SVG Diaspora Committee Maxwell Harewood, other members of the committee and a wide cross section of the media.
In a brief address to the gathering, CEO of the IADC, Dr. Rudy Matthias give an update on the progress of the airport and what is expected in 2013. He also noted that the question on most people’s minds at this time must be: Can we complete the work by the end of 2013?
According to Dr. Matthias, while he couldn't say with certainty that the airport will be completed by the end of 2013, since only God has absolute control over everything, he noted that all indications were pointing in that direction. He is of the firm belief that barring any unforeseen circumstances that the airport project will be completed by the end of 2013.
Dr. Matthias also expressed gratitude for the help that the project has received over the years from Vincentians at home and abroad.
Treasurer of Friends of the Argyle International Airport, Moreen King, says her organization came about following a visit to the airport site by their President Mr. Godfred Pitt. According to King their organization will continue to raise funds to assist in completing the airport.
Following the presentation of the cheque, Patron of the Argyle International Airport Contributory Fund, Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, thanked the members of Friends of the Argyle International Airport for their continued support and urged others to do likewise and to do so quickly.
