The International Airport Development Company (IADC) on Wednesday April 8th 2015, played hosts to the Vice President of Venezuela, His Excellency Jorge Arreaza, his wife Rosa Chavez, daughter of the late President Hugo Chavez and their entourage from Venezuela.
The group which was here to attend the ceremony to mark the completion of physical work on the Lowmans Leeward fuel Storage Plant, visited the airport to get a first hand view of how monies invested by Venezuela to assist with the construction of the Argyle International Airport have been spent, Venezuela being the Single Largest contributor to the airport’s construction.
The large contingent arrived at the Argyle Airport Site under overcast skies and was greeted at the entrance to the Passenger Terminal Building by CEO of the IADC, Dr. Rudy Matthias, who was on hand not only to greet but to offer Vice President Arreaza and his entourage the grand tour of the building.
Following the tour, Vice President Arreaza expressed satisfaction with the work done so far on the airport’s construction noting that the economic development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is going to be impacted by this new airport. He also said he was glad to see that the airport was now a reality.
CEO of the International Airport Development Company (IADC), Dr. Rudy Matthias, thanked the Vice President for the assistance given for the construction of the airport. He highlighted that Venezuela is the single largest contributor to the airports construction having contributed 85 million US Dollars.
Dr. Matthias noted that the airport is critical to development of SVG. He said the infrastructure will be here to help the country take off economically
