The Caribbean’s newest gateway opens for business


 Argyle International Airport, located in Argyle St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a country positioned in the Eastern Caribbean opened its doors to full operation on Tuesday February 14, 2017 following eight and a half years of construction.

The facility which boasts a runway 9000 feet long and a 150 feet wide, a terminal building with total floor space of 135-thousand square feet on three floors, saw an official opening ceremony taking place on the airport’s grounds on Monday February 13th. On Tuesday February 14th the airport received its first international jet landing when Dynamic Airways, a chartered flight originating from JFK Airport in New York touched down just after 7am.


The landing of the Dynamic Airways flight was preceded by a LIAT Airline flight which was the first flight to take off from the new airport. This airport which is positioned directly 100 miles west of Barbados is uniquely poised to become a hub for many airlines and positions the economy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for rapid takeoff. It also signals the realization of a dream held by Vincentians for over 50 years.

Argyle International Airport is built to accommodate 1.5 million passengers per year and up to 1000 at peak hour. The departure lounge offers three restaurants, a bar and two duty free shops. At pre-security in the Check-in area you will find a beverage café serving hot and cold beverages and food. Also in pre-security at International Arrivals you will find a full commercial bank, ATM Machines, two cell phone stores, car rental booths and the Tourism Information Bureau. At baggage claim you will also find an information desk among other facilities being offered there.

Very important persons using the VIP lounges located on the third floor of the building are going to feel extremely comfortable and special as they lounge in facilities fit for Kings and Queens, decorated to the highest standard. Currently with the exception of chartered flights there are no international carriers operating to AIA. However, this is expected to change within the next four to six months as these carriers continue to put things in place to fly to this new destination.
